Classical Literature in the Streets of Moscow" Sightseeing Tour

Day 1.

Meeting with the guide at the airport or at the railway station

Going on a bus city tour.

During the tour you will see historical monuments and famous Moscow sights, such as the Kremlin embankment, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Novodevichy Convent. You will stop to take pictures from the observation platform of Sparrow hills, visit the Victory Park. From the bus you will see the New Moscow and the Federation Tower. Many other historical monuments will open their secrets.

Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Free time.

Dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.

Day 2.

Breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. Meeting with the guide at the reception. 

Going by subway to the tour starting point.

10:00 a.m. Tour starts in the Tretyakov Art Gallery.

The Tretyakov Art Gallery is the world's largest museum of the Russian art. The museum contains the richest collection of icons from all major schools of the Old Russian art, including the works of Theophanes the Greek and Andrey Rublev. The museum archives have outstanding samples of Russian painting and sculpture of the 18-19th centuries, the complete collection of works of the wanderers-painters Vasiliy Perov, Ivan Kramskoy, Konstantin Makovsky, Viktor Vasnetsov, Aleksei Savrasov, Vasily Polenov, Iliya Repin and Vasiliy Surikov. There are also works of painters and graphic artists of the early 20th century, including the works of members of such art groups as the World of Art, the Union of Russian Artists, the Blue Rose, the Jack of Diamonds and others.

1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Lunch at a city café.

Free time in the downtown. Independent return to the hotel by subway. 

Dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.

At extra cost you can also go to the opera or ballet in the Bolshoi Theatre.

Day 3.

 

 

Breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel.

10:00 Meeting with the guide at the reception. the beginning of the walking tourand the Kremlin Stars tour.

Departure by subway to the Moscow Kremlin State Museum-reserve.

10:30 a.m. The beginning of the walking tour:  visiting the State Department Store (GUM), Central Universal Department Store (TsUM), the Bolshoi Theatre, Nikolskaya Street, the Theatre Square, as well as Hotel Metropol which is one of the first hotels that was opened in the Soviet time. Besides, you will learn about the history of the Revolution square subway station. You are going to see all these sites and an experience guide will tell you an interesting story about them.

11:30 Moscow Kremlin tour.

The Moscow Kremlin is a symbol of Russian statehood. It is one of the world's largest architectural ensembles and the richest treasury of historical relics, monuments of cultural and art.

1:00 p.m. Lunch at a city café.

2:00 p.m. Continuation of tour.

Going by subway to the tour of the Old Arbat.

Apart from the Old Arbat you will also visit the Memorial Museum and Research Library «Gogol House» located on Nikitsky Boulevard.

A walk along the Old Arbat street is a wonderful journey of aristocratic Moscow. The Old Arbat is a pedestrian street in the downtown of the city. It is one of the oldest streets in Moscow and has been known since the 14th century. Its houses and streets are the history of Moscow. We will special attention to the building  in the very heart of the capital, which is situated on Nikitsky Boulevard next to the Arbat Square. Nowadays here is an ancient mansion house, the ensemble of which began to take shape in the 17th century. You will also see here is the only Russian Museum devoted to Nikolai Gogol. Cast-iron gates  lead to the court yard where you can see the monument to Nikolai Gogol, created by N.A. Andreev to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth. To the right you will see the Empire style house decorated with arcade. This is the house where Nikolai Gogol spent his last four years and where he died on February, 21 (old style), 1852.

6:00 p.m. Return to the hotel. Free time.

Day 4.

Breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. Meeting with the guide at the reception. 

10:00 a.m. Going out of the city to visit the museum-estate of Alexander Blok at Shakhmatovo.

12:00 p.m.  The museum-estate of Alexander Blok at Shakhmatovo was restored on its historical place after the fire. Here Alexander Blok met his future wife and lived with her. She was a daughter of Dmitry Mendeleev, a world-renowned chemist  who invented the periodic table and vodka. The museum-estate displays many items which belonged to the poet. All the interiors and yard outbuildings are restored.

1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Lunch at a city café.

The tour continues in the museum-estate Serednikovo.

Serednikovo is an old estate located near Moscow. Its ensemble features the era of the blossom of Russian classicism which is considered to be the golden age of Russian estates. Young Mikhail   Lermontov often visited the estate and stayed here for a long time. The history of this place is closely connected with the history of Russia. It is inconceivable that only a decade and a half ago devastation and despair ruled there. But these days you will be pleasantly surprised to see the light romantic architectural style and historical interiors of the ceremonial house of the Estate, the well-groomed territory at any time of the year, classical landscape design and the mysterious park! 

6:00 p.m. Return to the hotel. Free time.

Day 5.

At extra cost you may have a tour of the the Izmailovo Kremlin followed by a master class.

Day 6.

10:00 a.m. The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts

The main museum complex is located on the territory of the remarkable architectural monument of the 19th century - the noble mansion of the Khrushev-Seleznev family on Prechistenka Street 12/2. This historical mansion hosts such permanent exhibitions as "Pushkin and his era" and "Pushkin's fairy-tales". You will see exhibition halls, a reading room, as well as concert and conference halls. Here, on Prechistenka Street, are located the museum funds with open storages of rare books, pictorial, graphic and miniature portraits of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as storages of porcelain, bronze, art glass and ceramics and genealogical materials.

After that you will have a chance to see the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is the largest cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church. Its height is 105 m and it has the capacity to hold 10000 people. The cathedral was built in 2000, that is why it can be called one of the youngest sights of the city of Moscow.

1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Lunch at a city café.

Continuation of the tour, visiting the museum named after Chekhov on Sadovo-Kudrinskaya Street.

"I am living in Kudrin, against gymnasium No.4, in Korneev house that looks like a chest of drawers. The color of the house is liberal, i.e. red," wrote Anton Chekhov in one of his letters. Nowadays Kudrinskiy House looks the way it did before: a stone two storey outbuilding, built in 1874, which facade is decorated with two bay windows. In 1954 the memorial house of A.P. Chekhov, one of the most famous Moscow museums, was opened on Sadovo-Kudrinskaya Street.

4:00 p.m. Return to the hotel.

Day 7.

Breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. Check-out till 12:00 p.m. Transfer to the airport.
